BIBLE STUDY OUTLINE FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER, 2015

TOPIC: THE WAYS OF LIFE (POOR IN SPIRIT)

TEXT: MATTHEW 5:3

FOCUS: TO ENLIGHTEN STUDENTS ON THE KIND OF LIFE GOD EXPECTS THEM TO LIVE AS INDIVIDUALS.

INTRODUCTION

The world promotes self-sufficiency, yet God dwells with people whose heart are broken (Isa 57:15). This does not mean FALSE HUMILITY, it means PROPER ATTITUDE towards SELF, realizing how weak and sinful we are apart from Christ. We must be Empty before we can be full. Luke 18:9-14.

POOR IN SPIRIT

·         Those who admit their Spiritual inadequacy and cast themselves on the mercy of God (Matthew 5:3)

·         The poor in spirit is the opposite of the proud, the arrogant, the self-righteous, who boast of their own goodness(Luke 18:9-14)

·         The poor in spirit are those look to the Lord for justice, mercy, and deliverance and not to themselves(Luke 6:20)

QUALITY OF ONE WHO IS POOR IN SPIRIT

Ø  He that is poor in spirit is weaned in Christ

Ø  He that is poor in spirit is a Christ Admirer

Ø  He that is poor in spirit is never satisfied with his spiritual state(wanting more of GOD)

Ø  He that is poor in spirit is lowly in heart(Submissiveness)

Ø  He that is poor in spirit is prayerful

Ø  He that is poor in spirit depends on Christ

Ø  He that is poor in spirit is an exalter of free grace (THANKFUL HEART)

VIRTUE OF THE POOR IN SPIRIT

HUMILITY

ü  The most eminent Christian is the most humble

ü  It makes you great

CONTENTMENT

ü  It is opposed to the restlessness of ambition and the haughtiness of pride

ü  It does not eagerly and properly desire the honor and riches of this world

PATIENCE

ü  TRUST AND HOPE IN GOD

THE PROMISE FOR THE POOR IN SPIRIT

      Eternal Life.
